Of Herbs, Gardens & Art

This series was prompted by the invitation to hold a solo exhibit of my mixed media paintings at the Almonte Herb Garden in 2008.

Images of time-worn, Medieval Herbals and Brother Cadfael pottering in his herb garden sprang to mind. As did legends associated with the herbs themselves and their oh-so romantic names - Wolfsbane or Monkshood, Lady's Mantle and Dragon's-wort. I was also reminded of how deeply we connect with nature through the act of keeping a garden.

I spent many enchanted hours/days/weeks making copious notes and sketches; gathering inspirational images and quotations; painting, writing and collaging; bringing my art to life.

I also built a brick herb garden in the shape of a gothic arch where I grow these heady plants to feed my body and soul.
