Last Wednesday, Laura Starkey and I took a road trip to Barry's Bay. Laura and I always make room for creativity to tag along. Texts flew back and forth the night before. "Making leek & lentil soup and oat scones to take with us tomorrow :)" and "Sweet, I will make a thermos of tea and snack balls." Wow, I couldn't wait to see what snack balls were!
The sun was with us, the roads were dry and the temperature a mild -2. We chatted about exciting creative ideas while the miles flew by. Our tummies started grumbling just before we arrived in town, so it wasn't long before we pulled over and began our picnic.
We unpacked our respective offerings and giggled as I revealed pottery bowls with silver spoons while Laura set out china teacups and handmade, hand printed napkins. Neither of us had mentioned bringing these; we both enjoy living an artsy life, whenever and wherever we are. The snack balls were delicious, by the way, made of yummy nut butters and seeds.
The South of 60 Arts Centre happened to be across the road and after lunch we lugged our creative works through the doors in hopes of these pieces qualifying for their upcoming juried show, "Telling Tales: Chapter One". This, of course, was the motive for our road trip. Curators Anya and Danielle were warm and welcoming and couldn't wait to see our work. That always feels so good! A lovely chat ensued, then a viewing of the remaining pieces of a mail art show in the upstairs gallery. More inspiration.
Laura and I enjoyed a walk around the streets to stretch our legs, and a check in at a couple of stores before we once again climbed into the Outback for the gorgeous drive home. We're definitely going back to see "Telling Tales: Chapter One". It runs from Jan 23rd - March 5th, 2016.
I believe we all have a strong, basic need to explore and create. When we give ourselves permission to play, to be child-like again, we discover who we are. Magic is invited in.
