Started filling in my wall calendar today. First 2 events created with collage, painting and lettering... fun! At the end of the year I plan to cut the calendar up and make it into a book. A big book.
I've started a Studio Stuff board on Pinterest where I'll post pics of the calendar as it "grows". You can find it here
Here's to a creative week ahead!
Larry and I depend on iCal for our digital calendar and it works beautifully, syncing with our iPhones and keeping us up to date with what's going on. But every year at this time, I feel a longing to invent a new kind of calendar... one that shows my whole year at a glance. One on which I can draw, paint, photograph and collage, scrawl ideas in the margins and stick post-it notes on.
A bit of googling this evening and I found it - a wallpaper that possesses the functions of a calendar. This is what I want! Kudos to Christiaan Postma for his brilliant 'calendar wallpaper' design.
So the studio will be transforming once again. I'm off to move things around to free up a huge wall space and cover it with paper. I'll do my own lettering for the months and days. Since I am making LARGE SCALE paintings now, I can use this same wall space to paint giant canvases and boards - right over top of my calendar. All the stray paint will add to the artsy look.
I'm curious to know what you use to plan your year. What type of calendar appeals to you as an artist? Digital, journal, day-timer, store-bought, hand-made or some combination? Leave a comment if you like... I would love to hear from you :)
Wishing everyone a creative week!
BTW I've started a Pinterest board for my studio. You can check it out here.
I believe we all have a strong, basic need to explore and create. When we give ourselves permission to play, to be child-like again, we discover who we are. Magic is invited in.
